Our Story

ALWAYS STARTS
WITH A

Louise Maxwell

Managing Director

I’ve always cheered for the underdog and I don’t believe in smoke and mirrors. Magic? Real magic yes of course, but not pretend magic or vanity metrics, or marketing agencies who sell services simply to sustain themselves, to keep their clients paying and keep their business afloat. That’s something that I can’t abide.

And those underdogs? Entrepreneurs trying to get a break, or a new marketing manager trying to fix a big problem, I hate to see people taking advantage of them and I saw that A LOT in my agency days.

So I set up Max Marketing to be the opposite, to cheer for the little guy, or just the average guy who asks for help. To freely share secrets and give advice to people who WANT it and NEED it. I built a system so that other people like me could share their secrets and give advice and help, the best help, to make a difference in the only way I knew how – THROUGH MARKETING.

Building a process from scratch means you get to put in ALL the good parts. We avoided legacy systems and quick fixes, preferring to develop the approach the LONG way, through tried, tested, failed, redesigned, retested, succeeded processes.

Each time a new person joins the business I ask them to “make it better” to identify our inefficiencies, introduce new innovations and bring in their experience to build on what we have.

We were fully virtual from day one, when I started my business in 2013, to ensure the business wasn’t paying rent, bricks and electrics, but rather invested in tools and ideas and people. Then a pandemic hit and we were already fully set up to work with our clients without missing a step. The world caught up with us.

Our strength is our team collaboration. We meet weekly to discuss our ideas, train and learn. We peer review each other’s work and we network out challenges with our wider team. When you work with one of our marketers, you get an army of specialists behind them.

Of everything, the thing of which I am most proud is getting up every day for eight years straight feeling excited about going to work. I’ve never been in a job I felt that way about before. Ultimately, if you do what you love, that’s got to be the best way to live right? I want EVERYONE to feel that way, whatever business they are in.

My Max Story

Sales & Marketing Coach Since 2016

Where has your Max journey taken you so far?

Max has enabled me to grow my digital skills by exposing me to a huge variety of clients and their unique circumstances. Covid in particular presented a unique opportunity for clients to explore new ways of doing things and I have enjoyed being a part of all of their journeys.

What have you enjoyed most?

I really enjoy having a large team of marketers with different backgrounds and strengths to bounce ideas off.

What has been your most interesting/challenging project so far?

I am currently assisting a client to launch a brand new digital product and it has been very interesting being across that process from pricing through to development. I’m really looking forward to the launch later this month.

What have been the most important benefits of working at Max?

An interesting and varied portfolio of clients. Exposure to new situations. The opportunity to play to my strengths and bring in other marketers when necessary to fill any gaps.

Anything else?

Where has your Max journey taken you so far?

I have gone from:

  • Having others control how I spend my time to me controlling how I spend my time,
  • A narrow focus on one type of business to a wider focus on many types of business,
  • Mixing with a handful of marketers with narrow industry experience to mixing with many marketers with varied industry experience.
What have you enjoyed most?
  • Working on client’s websites.
  • Reviewing client’s marketing materials.
  • Number crunching and analysis.
  • Training sessions.
  • Being able to brainstorm marketing ideas with other marketers / draw on others’ ideas and experiences.
What has been your most interesting/challenging project so far?

Most interesting: a website review for a client who wanted to develop a direct-to-consumer sales channel. This wasn’t just from an SEO perspective. What made it really interesting was the messaging and sales conversion aspect of this project.
Most challenging: a dietary supplement business. Due to strict laws around advertising and promotion, it was hard for this client to tap into problem-aware consumers with their marketing messages. So, I had to think about how they could promote their product without falling foul of the law.

What have been the most important benefits of working at Max?
  • You can tap into the knowledge of marketers with other industry experience and marketing skills.
  • The variety of clients and industries you get to work for or in.
  • You can develop and pursue your own interests within marketing. Your ability to grow and develop particular skills isn’t limited by what an employer might require.

Anything else?
