Project Island Song is a community project in the Bay of islands between a group called “Guardians of the Bay of Islands”, Te Rawhiti hapu and The Department of Conservation. Having achieved the goal of being pest mammal free in 2009, the group’s vision is to restore birdsong back to the Ipipiri note by note. The group’s governers realised that in order to protect and preserve the pest-free status of the islands, that the ambitious task of bringing this vision to the mainland was the next stage. The sharing of this vision was the first critical step in motivating the
We worked with Richard and his team to develop a campaign message and tactical plan, that luanched with an inspirational video of the Ipipipiri and the vision for the project. The name “Te tangi o Te Ata” was gifted to the project by the hapu and means “bringing back the dawn chorus”. We helped to connect the key stakeholders. community and project leaders by setting this vision for the extension of the Project Island Song’s original vision. We worked with our video partner, Up and Up to take some sensational footage of the incredible work that had been done by the Project, and to lay the foundations for the start of the new project with Te tangi o te ata with a brand and communications plan. During COVID we then helped the project to send a refreshed message with an exceptional video called “The Great Return”

Why did you/your business engage Max Marketing ?
We have a broad spectrum of audience, and we have always found it complex to find the best way to effectively engage them and understand how to maintain the engagement. Louise took us through a thorough workshop to identify the right path for us, which was quite different from what we had been doing. It was a very energising session.
How did your marketer help you and your business achieve results ?
We have raised the profile of Project Island Song, and we better understand our audience. Max helped us to identify ways to approach some local residents who could become more active in the trust, and we were successful in achieving our goal to get our boat fully funded which will be utilised in 2022
What results have you seen so far ? / What results do you expect will come from your plan ?
One of the highlights was the production of a video which we did both for the launch of Te Tangi O Te Ata and also after our initial lockdowns with the Max team and their production partners:
What was the highlight of working with your marketer or the outcome you were most pleased with ?
Completing the video was a significant achievement, and we were also coached on how to utilise this to build awareness of our project. It is still in the early stages for us (a target for 2050 pest free) but it has been a significant journey so far and we are looking forward to the next stages.
Anything else you’d like to add ?
We are really looking forward to the launch of the website. It has been more difficult with the impacts of COVID to get things done over the past two years but still is a very exciting project.

Max Marketing fully understand our organisation and where we want to go. Their effort, attitude, enthusiasm, professionalism, and success-oriented approach are commendable. They were detail-oriented and kept our project moving along, bringing the right resources to the table when needed. The communication, transparency, and knowledge set them apart.
