Business Growth Enabler – Marketing & Digital Strategist

My marketing career started in the early 1990s through being involved in filming of television commercials for the government agency I worked for. This led to completing a Bachelor of Business Studies with a major in Marketing at Massey University Albany and a Certificate of Direct Marketing with Merit through the Direct Marketing Association (now the Marketing Association). I have predominately worked in services business and through the early stages of my career I had plied my trade for companies including; Vector, Business Travel International NZ, and Mercury Energy (Mighty River Power).

In the mid-2000s I joined Massey University as the Marketing Manager – Auckland, responsible for marketing and student recruitment for the Auckland campus, Auckland market for extramural studies and nationally for post-graduate recruitment strategy. While at Massey this also allowed me to complete my Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (Marketing) with Distinction, before moving to IAG New Zealand as a Marketing Portfolio Manager for State Insurance in 2010. At State I worked with the executive team in the development of marketing strategy for the State personal insurance portfolio and developed targeted segment growth strategies for direct insurance, and specifically for growth in the Auckland market.

More recently, for the last seven years, I held the role of National Marketing Manager for the Heritage Hotels chain, responsible for the full marketing mix for the three brands and multiple properties within the group. The highlights of this role was being recognised with two international marketing awards including a Gold award in the 2019 Travel Weekly Magellan Awards for hospitality marketing – website and a Silver award in the 2019 HSMAI (Hotel Sales and Marketing Association International) Adrian Awards for integrated marketing campaign for consumers.

I have been a supporter of developing the marketing profession throughout my career, with membership of the Marketing Association (MA) since 1999, a member of the Northern Committee for the MA in 2018 – 2020 and the Digital Special Interest Group since 2020. In 2017 & 2018 I was a judge for the New Zealand Direct Marketing Awards which recognises the excellence in data-driven direct marketing by clients, agencies, and suppliers. I have been a member of The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) since 2014 and a Fellow of CIM since 2019. I was awarded the Chartered Marketer status by CIM in 2015 which I have retained annually.

In late 2020 I took the opportunity to bring my marketing experience and industry knowledge to help businesses looking to grow. Joining Max Marketing as a Business Growth Enabler has given me the opportunity to help businesses improve their marketing effort and effectiveness through proven best practice, to deliver sustainable long-term growth. Every business has the same or similar issues, they are just at a different point in time or place to others in overcoming these challenges. Through extending the traditional 4 Ps of the Marketing Mix (product, price, place and promotion) with the three extra Ps of services marketing (people, processes and physical evidence), every business has the ability to grow and deliver shareholder equity.
